need help with swinging door repair

i live in an old house and have one of those swinging doors between the kitchen and diningroom. the door will not stay open. and, when it closes, it does not close all the way. would someone please tell me how to solve this?

You'll probably have to reset the hinge (probably the top one) a bit, so that the door stays open.
Hard to say how much to reset (mortise out more on the door so the hinge sits tighter to the jamb), but thats usually the case.
What I usually do is tighten all the hinges 1st..to see how the door as been adjusted by doing so.. then modify from there.

On a spring loaded hinged swinging door, you will probably find the hinge units need lubrication. Now, as for staying open, the detent on the hinge is probably worn. If you can remove one of the hinges, take it with you to either a good hardware store or to a big box to see if you can find a replacement (2).
