Question Can I put hooks on these doors

Just installed those 6 panel pre-hung doors from Lowes. (easier said than done) Now I would like to put the hooks and door mirrors back on. Can I do that with this type of door? Our old doors were hollw core also but made with wood. We never had any problems with putting/using the hooks on them. Or do I now have to resort to the over the door type hooks?

I assume you are referring to those molded hardboard doors. They will accept hooks but not for heavy loads. A robe, towel, etc., should be OK. I don't recommend these doors for hanging mirrors, but people have done it.

They do make mollys for hollow core doors but are probably hard to find. I've used plastic anchors when I was in business. Make the hole undersized and force the anchor in.

Don't put the mirror on the door -- put it on the WALL that the door opens to.

If it were a flush door (a FLAT surface), that would be one thing. But no matter what you do to install a mirror on a 6 panel door, the edges are going to look bad -- I mean REALLY BAD!!

Lefty is right, the mirror must overlap the panels if not it will look horrible. I assume the hooks you mention are plastic L shaped mirror clips.

And rather than using a penetrating hook, use the 3M adhesive hooks. They hold remarkably well and can be removed easliy for painting, etc.

The door (I'm assuming that you are talking about a hollow core door) wasn't designed to support the weight of the mirror (I'm assuming that you are talking a pretty much full height and full width mirror).

Might work OK for a few months, maybe a year, but then the weight of the mirror is going to win and destroy the door.
