need help removing round door latch

i've tried searching for help with replacing an old door knob online but so far, none address my particular knob. the knobs themselves are out. my problem is with the latch: it just has a flat ring around it and there aren't any screws to remove. at least, none visible to me. here's a picture: not a terribly good picture but i hope clear enough. anyone seen these before? any ideas? thanks!!

Get a screw driver and push it out from the back. It may be stuck due to the paint but this type is just pressed in.

Yip -- it's just held in place by the knob. Like Bill62 said, a screw driver and a hammer will knock it out of the latch side of the door.

You'll need a chisel or a router to mortise in the new latch, as it will have a plate about an inch wide and a bit over 2" tall that needs to be recessed into the door frame.

You can replace it with a regular latch. You will have to mortice in the face plate of the latch but it will work.

Some latchsets come with the adapter for the drive in latch, like you have. Sorry, don't know which ones, but I remember throwing a bunch out after some job not too long ago. Or you can buy the latch seperately if the handles you like don't have it. They're not expensive.

Either that or mortice it out, like Bill said.
