How to replace fin seal (pile& channel) weatherstripping?
I have single hung aluminum windows and need to replace the weatherstripping. The existing weatherstripping is the fin seal (pile with fin and backing that slides into a channel) style.
I have no idea how I am supposed to get the new weatherstripping installed because you can't slide it in now that the window is installed (at least that I can see). Is there a trick to doing this, or do I have to remove the bottom portion of the window? I sure hope not!
Thanks in advance.

I've done this in my business but I don't know if I could explain it. Using a dremel tool with a grinding bit to fit your situation, remove about 3/8" of the grooves at the top of the window. This will make an opening to remove and insert the fin seal.

This sounds like a very good way to do it. I think I know exactly what you mean. Should be much easier than taking off the bottom part of the window. Quicker anyhow...
And if I need to do it again in a few years, it will be much quicker since the grooves are already ground out.
Thanks a lot.
