clearance room for large window
I'm having a window delivered tomorrow (93 x 64.5), and I need to know how much clearance I need to leave around the studs for insulation, shims, etc. I hope that makes sense! Basically, if that's the size of the window, what should the opening be? A half inch around or something? Mucho thanks for any speedy replies! You know, if they're right ones and all...
cheers,
C.C.

Welcome to the forums! If you are installing the windows, don't let them sit on the sill. Install shims across the bottom. It will allow for the ultimate squaring of the frame in the opening. As XSleeper said, 1/2" is adequate around the perimeter. Also, if you use foam, be sure to use the minimally expanding foam to keep from deforming the windows in the opening.

Thanks alot, chandler - and XSleeper. So, um, what time are you guys gonna drop by and pop that window in for me? I'm in Canada. Just head north and you can't miss it. If you hit Sarah Palin, you've gone too far. I'll be the guy with a big hole in the side of my house. The beer will be cold. See ya soon.
