glass block basement windows
heres a question about glass block window panels.
we can buy a 24x32 glass block window that is preassembled at any lumber yard.home depot, etc.
has anyone had the experence to make the panels them selves?i,ve got the 8x8 blocks and a vent.i.d like to use mortor for the joints and after i,ve made the unit i can install it as a whole panel, just as these can be bought.
thanks

I worked on a job a while back where the masonry guys had me make a jamb for them out of Azek (PVC 1x6) which they installed glass block into. I'm assuming they anchored the rows of block to the jamb with some tie straps as they laid it up. They mixed up bags of glass block mortar and it looked very nice when they were done. Trimmed it just as if it has been a manufactured window.
Ideally, the jamb will need to be a little larger than you would think. For instance, 32 3/8 x 24 3/8 allows a little room on the outside of the glass blocks for a decent sized mortar joint. Believe me, if it's too tight, you have trouble getting the last block in!
