Whats the best window I should buy-NEW HOME OWNER
Hello all,
I just bought a home and im going to be ordering windows for all 3 bedrooms by the end of the month.
2 rooms are sliders and the master is 2 sliders put together. For the master I think id like a picture window with sliders on each side.
Ive been to HomeDepot and looked at their American Craftsman windows. Ive been to Lowes and looked at their Pella windows. Both kind of look the same but the Pella is about 10 dollars more.
BTW-they are special order windows 40"H x 53"W
The master is 40"H x 106"W
I plan on being in the house 15-20yrs(i think) so I dont want to cheap out but also dont want to break the bank.
For one 40"H x 53"W the window was about
PELLA - $215
and
American Craftsman - $205
ALSO, Lowes sells Reliabuilt which was about $180.
Which should I go with?
Thanks all

I would not recommend either. IMHO, American craftsman is junk, and I have had a lot of problems with Pella over warranty issues. If you are looking for replacement windows, look for a national or at least a regional company with a long reputation. Too many companies selling vinyl windows are long gone before the warranty is even needed. You can order most vinyl windows to fit exactly(within 1/4"), not stock sizes that need a lot of rework.
Andersen now has a replacement window(not Renewal) that seems OK, but have not used them. I deal with Viwinco, local to northeast US. For wood windows, Marvin and Weathershield make wood replacement sashes that are very nice, but a bit pricey.

Thanks for the responds guys.
I got some prices from those 2 you mentions and wow they are expensive.
The size I need (special order) 53"x40" slider is about $200 from Lowes(Pella)
While Marvin was about $950

Well rug...this is another case of you get what you pay for. $950 seems a lot......as in ALOT.
Mid range should do as well. How bout Certainteed? They used to have a good rep, though I think they were sold. Maybe Simonton is what I'm thinking of?
Unfortunately, I think some of the nationally known names spend more on marketing and advertising than they do on engineering.
If you intend to stay in the house for more than a few years, you need to get away from the Box stores. I'm no window install Pro, but I sold a couple of different brands for a few years. The top of the line Big Box replacement windows are about equivalent to Lower-mid grade windows from a good company.
For buy and flips, or the low income people, they are probably better than keeping the leaky old wood single pane windows. I wouldn't put A/C , Pella or Reliabilt windows in my own home.
Out here in AZ, Milgard is a pretty well respected brand, and I've been to 2 or 3 independents as well as a Box.
