Comparing 3: PowerWindowsandSiding.com vs. American Craftsman & Andersen
I'm working up prices and comparisons for replacing all the windows in my house.
I'm pricing them with installation, taxes, shipping and window costs all included:
Because I don't fit quite into the standard measures, Andersen comes in to cost me $6900 (mixing 200 and 400 series depending on size)
American Craftsman comes in at $6200
And Power Windows comes in at $8600. Their warranty is lifetime on every detail except the mesh with no additional costs ever and it transfers to the next owner fully. The other warranties suck due to charges to have someone come out after the 1st year even though there are limited lifetime features.
My question is, as far as the product quality, do you rate Andersen wood better over any vinyl or are vinyl just a different way to go?
Are vinyl actually better windows than wood for any reason?
The Power Windows bid just interests me due to their warranty ... does anyone know if they are made any better from American Craftsman?
And in the end, I don't know whether a fabulous warranty is worth paying an additional $2400! (I get the impression that in most cases, a warranty won't pay for itself to that extent when it comes to windows--a whole lot would have to go wrong to make that money back, right?)

One good thing about Andersen is their frame is made of wood and vinyl wrapped. Not hollow like many others. I think Andersen makes a very good window and they have been around for decades.

Given those choices, I would only consider Andersen. Lifetime warranties are only as good as the company, most are gone in 5 yrs. Andersen has been around for a very long time and is noted for their service. Also, I consider American Craftsman to basically be junk. Have never seen Power Windows, not sure whose windows they use.
For the record, I have been a home remodeler for 23 yrs., qualified to coment??
