schlage deadbolt problem...

Hi:

I just installed new Schlage locks on my front doors. Installation went smoothly with the minor exceptions that come along with doing anything for the first time. The problem is this...the deadbolt lock seem to have an extra "snap" at the end of the turn. When it is locked to this point, a person cannot enter with a key. The key just fails to rotate in the unlock direction. If you turn the deadbolt just shy of this point, there is no problem unlocking at all.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Happy Holidays!

The hole in the framing is likely undersized, needs to be opened up slightly or the alignment is slightly off. Another possibility is the lock cylinder and bolt are slightly off. Loosen the cylinder screws a bit ad move the cylingder up/down while checking smoothness of the cylinder operation.

I just had one fail and require that we drill out the cylinder from outside of the house. It refused to budge with the key after it had been in for only a few years. Specifically, it was a Schlage.
