Doors and Windows

I have a typical 2' - 8" x 6' - 8" interior hollow core door that I want to put in a permanent louvered vent section near the bottom. The size is not critical, but I just to vent a space.

Any ideas where to find such an animal that I can insert into opening I cut in the door?

Dick

Heck Dick, just use a couple of regular old lovered return vents on each side. Use sheet metal screws to hold it in. They hold better in hollow doors. If ya wanna be fancy..put some wood around the edge of the cut opening.

Louvers

Gunguy357magnum -

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of that, but because it is in a very noticeable area, I would have to add some trim and was trying to avoid the trim cutting and miters. - Looking for an easier way out since I will still will have to paint everything.

I really do not worry about the inside and was hoping to find a standard unit.

I have a horribly cold closet area under a split entry that I just insulated, but really need ventilation and a main return is directly across the hall from the door. I can provide an intake into the closet without too much problem.

Thanx for the response.

Dick

“ANEMOSTAT FDLS” is one. There are others. If you're looking for bird & insect screening also, Wonder Metals (over by Lefty - forum moderator), in Redding Ca. makes them. Do tell them the door thickness. The standard is for 1-3/4 doors.

Dick, I think GG was thinking of support pieces inside the hollow part of the door once you cut your holes. A 2x2 cut down slightly to fit in the opening, glued in will give additional support when you go to put in your louvers. The screws for your louvers will add support for the 2x2's and it won't look "hollow" and will feel more substantial. Of course premade louvers will eliminate the need for the interior trim.
