Cost of Replacement Windows
Hi,
My Wife and I are in the process of replacing four windows and we're looking to get information on how much it should cost.
We had a salesman come and quote us 3700$ for 2- 71X45 and 2- 46x36 Sliders
These windows are made by EnviroView, they apparently are Energy Star Rated with low E and some sort of gas (made of 3 precious metals and filled 100%).
The saleman came to the house and did a whole presentation and compared his EnviroView window with the likes of Andersen, Home Depot, and one filled completely with insulation. Then proceeded to shine a UV light through it to demonstrate how many BTU's will enter and leave the home. His demonstration proved to be quit impressive as the Enviroview was just as good as the Andersen.
We are seriously considering getting them to do the job but I'm concerned that I'm paying to much. They want a total of $3700 to do 4 windows.
Does that seem right?

$3700 for 4 windows? No, that doesn't seem right, unless these are complete ripout and replacement of the old window frame and trim, with siding work required as well.
The windows are 71H x 45W? Or W x H?
Not a contractor or carpenter....but it seems high to me.

The windows are 71Wx45w.
The windows in there now are old (35+ years) aluminum single pane windows. So they would need to completely remove them.
They are also sliders.
I don't think they'll need to do anything to the siding.
I also have a quote from Home Depot and they were about 2800$

topher...where are you located btw.....those sound pretty similar to windows I have. Its a real simple job to replace sliders out here in the wild wild west. They sell windows that basically fit right in the old frame.

I'm in New Jersey.
I feel like they are killing me on the labor. I've done a bunch of research and it seems most windows that size should be less than 400$ for the window.
Do you know what typical labor should be per hole.

Jersey is a different country. They may not sell the replacement windows for sliders there. Theres a couple of folks who work in that area on here...I'd give them a chance to respond.
Oh, they should be giving you labor and material cost...was that what the $400 was?

the 400 was just the highest price i found for a double hung window. Based on consumer reports.
They didnt have anything for installation though. Is there any contractors out there that'll give me the cost of labor.
Please!!!!
