Pella window quote
I got a quote from Pella today. Quote was for three 30x65" casement windows, one 6' patio slider and one 30x42" double hung. I asked for top of the line windows (wood with exterior alum cladding) with interior mini-blinds in all but the double hung window. Imagine my surprise when he dropped a $12,400 figure on me. And that is with the current 50% labor sale going on! When I said, let's kill the blinds, he put me in a lower line and dropped the price to $9100. I was still shocked.
Having had a quote on the "builder's line" Jeld-wen windows from Menards, without installation, of less than $3000, I was pretty surprised. I'm sure the Pellas are better windows than the Jeld-wens but I doubt they are 3 times as good. Needless to say I will be getting several more quotes.

IMHO, +24 yrs as a remodeling contractor. Avoid Pella, and avoid builders quality products from anyone. I have had several of my customers with Pella windows(I did not install) with rotted frames/sashes, barely past 10 yr warranty. Pella would do nothing. Builders quality is the BOTTOM of the line, waste of money.
I think that Andersen 400 series has the best bang for your remodeling dollar, in a wood window. Quality products, probably the best service in the business. Avoid big box stores, you can do better at lumberyards for stock and installers.
For vinyl products I use Viwinco(formerly Certainteed), regional Northeast, not sure they go to Indiana.

Thanks for the good info. Andersen is available at one of the local lumber yards and is on my list to get quotes. Viwenco is not available w/i 50 miles per their website.
