Hi,

We are looking for a wooden entry door (craftsman style,knotty alder, gluechip glass) and found a few places on the internet with good prices, including ETODoors.com.

Does anyone have experience with this company ETODoors? It's a bit scary to order something as expensive and variable in quality from the internet, but the local shops are just too expensive, and the big box stores such as Home Depot don't have the style-wood-glass combination I'm looking for. What should I look out for when buying a wooden door on the Internet?

Call the Los angeles Dept of Consumer Affairs to ask about complaints against them. They can be too fly by night, it seems that the owner used his home address to register the domain.

I bought a door from ETO and they set me up with an installer.

The door panels are not cut evenly, the entire door is cut unevely and their are other issues with the door. The install was not done well either.

I asked ETO and the installer for help correcting the issues, but they have been worthless. The installer keeps telling me he's coming out and never shows. This has been going on for 6 months..

This is my worst home improvement experience... I wish I never called ETO...

To anyone ordering anything major for a home from e-mail......if something is wrong, what is your recourse???? You usually have to pay return shipping, it can take a long time to resolve an issue, etc., etc. For items like this, go to a local vendor, local lumber yards, but not necessarily big box stores.

 

I purchased 24 doors from ETO Doors of which 4 have shifted/shrunk so that large gaps have developed. This allows you to see through the door. All 24 doors have moved significantly after staining and sealing and hanging requiring refinishing of all doors. The owner Oren Cohen inspected the doors and claimed they were improperly sealed and that all of his doors would tend to warp or shrink if not immediately and completely sealed. Other door companies that I have queried have claimed such sealing would cause these improperly dried (ETO mahogany) or "wet wood" doors to warp and crack. Oren Cohen and ETO doors claim no responsibility for their defective product. After being burned by this company I asked around and found this to be a frequent and common complaint with this company and their paneled doors. They fail to take any responsibility for their defective product and always blame the installer, finisher or owner.

 

My experience with ETO is a positive one. I ordered entry doors for all of our units. At first we were a little skeptical, because we were not able to see the doors in person. The doors have arrived and we are very happy with the quality.

I was reassured when my contractor was also impressed with the purchase. From the beginning of the process to the delivery, ETO provided great service. I would buy again.

 

I just filled out an ETO complaint form for insulated glass that is clouding in a french door that I bought from them. I'll post what happens

 

I would love to see pictures of those doors that cracked and shrunk. Exterior solid wood doors require a lot of maintainance. The few manufacturers I have looked at all require an overhang of a certain size to help protect the door from the elements. If the door has a heavy exposure to sunlight and weather it will take a beating. Haveing extreme temperature differences between each side of the door during the high heat of the summer and coldest days of winter put them to the test as well.

I don't agree that poor finishing would result in cracking unless the doors had no finish on them or didn't have new finish applied every year. I woudl expect the panels to expand and contract which will cause finishing issues when that happens, but they shouldn't be cracking. The panels shouldn't shrink to the extent that you can see through them either.

ETO Doors is a BBB accredited business. You should file complaints with them if you have any. They have 6 listed filed complaints listed and the result of each complaint is described on the BBB website. Kudzu.com has 24 reviews on them with most being positive resulting in 4 out of 5 stars. I do see a discrepency between ETO's website and the BBB website as to when the company started.

Given their low prices, I wouldn't expect high quality.

 

ETO doors has since my posting agreed to stand by the quality and workmanship of their product. I am satisfied with their commitment to customer satisfaction.
