storm door closer

My wife is having trouble opening the storm door as the spring in the closer is very stong. We are getting up in age & I wondered if there is a new type closer that would be easier for her to open the door but still be able to close it.
Thanks for any response Don

Does your storm door have a black hydraulic cylinder? If so, it could be that someone installed the pivot shoe too far away from the door. There really shouldn't be much "spring" when you open the door... and if there is, that's the first thing I'd suspect. The instructions suggest the closest edge of the pivot shoe be placed approximately 1/4" from the edge of the z-bar. (the pivot shoe is the part that the hinge end of the hydraulic closure attaches to, and it usually has 4 screws that hold it to the jamb)
