Need Nylon Latches For Old Aluminum Storm Windows

I am helping my friend and noticed that many of her storm windows are being held open with sticks. Upon closer examination I found that many of the nylon latches that hold her old aluminum storm windows in position are broken. They can be removed easily and could be replaced but now I am searching for these latches. So far my internet searches give me little results and I do not see a name of manufacturer on these old windows. It is a simple little latch and I just know that there is a warehouse somewhere that has hundreds of these. Any suggestions on where to look to find replacement latches? The originals are nylon, fit in a groove on the frame with a little spring that pushes them outward. A screw that holds the channel piece to the rest of the window is used as the retaining mechanism to keep it in the channel. Very simple actually so I would love to find replacements to get all the storm windows working again and get rid of all the sticks! Any ideas of where to locate such a part?

You can usually buy new storms for the price of the parts. They are really cheap, since no one uses then anymore. But we have a local obsolete/used window parts dealer here, other side of the country. E-mail or PM me.

Latch

Thanks for the reply. I saw the Swisco site, mostly complicated metal ones. The one I need is rather simple. Let me see if I can post a photo. <OBJECT WIDTH='320' HEIGHT='317'><PARAM NAME='movie' VALUE='http://bungalowbutch.myphotoalbum.com/inc/share/mpa.swf?xml_source=http://bungalowbutch.myphotoalbum.com/inc/share/photoxml.php%3Fset_albumName%3Dalbum02%26id%3DLatch3%26index%3D1%26whatType%3Dphoto&timeout=60&license=IUBZ89235ZM6YFSLRTO9DN6IKN49JK'></PARAM><PARAM NAME='wmode' value='transparent'></PARAM><EMBED src='http://bungalowbutch.myphotoalbum.com/inc/share/mpa.swf?xml_source=http://bungalowbutch.myphotoalbum.com/inc/share/photoxml.php%3Fset_albumName%3Dalbum02%26id%3DLatch3%26index%3D1%26whatType%3Dphoto&timeout=60&license=IUBZ89235ZM6YFSLRTO9DN6IKN49JK' WMODE='transparent' WIDTH='320' HEIGHT='317'></EMBED></OBJECT> Storm Window Latch

Well..in 10 years of dealing with these kind of thing..I've never seen that kind of latch. Of course that was all East Coast time. Most were aluminum/zinc castings

Try finding a local screen and storm shop...it may be your best bet.

But ya know...sticks are pretty cheap and reliable too.

Like Gunguy45, I never saw this part in 40 years in business in the New York area. I also did some searches of sources that we used for parts and came up with nothing. You must look locally. Good luck.

Old Latches

I am in Utah so maybe they were something used out here in the west. Thanks for the replies so far. I will continue to search.
