window moulding bowed out; can this be fixed?

I have a window where the moulding on the bottom under the sill is bowed out in the center. If you look at it from underneath, you can see both ends are attached to the wall, but the center forms an arch which at the peak is almost 1/4".

How can this be repaired?

And how did this happen? I am the second owner of the home which is about 10 years old. The first time I bothered to look there it was like that, so I can't say when this may have occurred.

Can you push it back in? It probably wasn't nailed correctly from the get go.

I put a little pressure on it, but does't seem to give at all.

Could you give us a pic? is there any gap between the bottom of the moulding and wall? does the wall under the window have a buldge?

Is there caulking on the wood preventing it from being pushed in?

Okay I now know what the problem is. One of the studs under the window is bowed, pushing the drywall out. It's actually difficult to see this even when I know it's there. But when you run your hand over it, or put a straight edge on the wall, it becomes very obvious.

I talked to a couple of contractors and they said they would cut the bow out rather than replacing the stud. I think I'm going to favor replacing the stud, or at least adding support to existing piece if kept. Any advice?

I'd cut out the bow like they suggest and then if you feel the need, sister another 2x4 along side of it.
