Rough Opening for New Door is Too Narrow

I'm trying to finish my basement before the family comes for Christmas and I have a couple of doors to install. Here is the problem:

My rough openings are (for some unknown reason) 29" and 29 1/2" wide.

First question: Can a 28" pre-hung door fit that RO?

Second question: If not, what should I do?

Rough Opening

You need at least 1/2 in. "wiggle room" in both width and height to install pre-hung doors. You need more extra space if the studs should happen to be out of plumb or not completely straight. Buy the door units and measure them carefully. I think you will need to redo the rough openings.

Why on earth can you get a 24", 28", 30", 32", and 36" but no 26" or 34" door?

"First question: Can a 28" pre-hung door fit that RO?" --- Maybe, on one if perfectly plumb.

"Second question: If not, what should I do? " ----- If non-bearing, just pull one or both trimmers and replace with 1x4.

Be safe, Gary
