Door hinge problem... Help please....
Hey:
I have an interior door hinge that is driving me nuts. The problem is the wood in the casing where one if the hinges mounts is worn out and the screws will not grab. There is basically no wood where the screws belong and the upper hinge will not mount, so the door looks like it needs medical attention..
Thank you in advance for any and all help and take care.

Hey hrjrkr:
Thanks for the great suggestion, I tried that and unfortunately behind the jam there is nothing... no wood. I took a strong flashlight and looked and all there is is air
I thought about using water putty, but don't know if it will allow the screws to grab hold. I used it in the past in other places and sometimes it just kinda flakes of.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again and take care

Is the hole big enough so you can slide a piece of wood long enough so that you can use a couple of screws through the frame to hold that piece of wood and than screw your hinge into that? Anothe way is to take out one of the moldings off and stick a peice of wood behind the frame where the hinge screws to.

Danno, you can sacrifice a golf tee, as well. Glue it in the hole and drive it home, cutting off the head. After it dries, use a 3"x8 screw in the hole. Surely there is meat at 3" back. I can't imagine anyone installing a door, especially the hinge side away from framing members.

Thanks!
Used some Gorilla Glue, toothpicks and going out to get some #8 x 3" long screws and that will get the job done!
Thanks again for all your suggestions and helping me get this "Honey Do" project completed.

Yeah, and HD is selling 2x3's now. I was just thinking there should be some sort of full width lumber for a door frame....something for the screws to bite into.
