Window Film

Can anyone recommend the best window film to use for keeping summer heat out of single-paned windows? Or give any comments on how much they help save energy? I am pretty desperate to save some heat from entering my apartment.

I have used Gila film on windows before with good results. Now don't expect miracles with single paned glass. If an apartment, you may want to consult with the landlord to see if they can modify the windows to be more energy efficient.

The Gila is ok...but not many Pro places use it out here. They either use 3M or SunGard(?)..the latter could be just for cars...not sure. Both of those are Pro install only.

Simple tinted film will not help as much as a heat rejection type film. It needs to block a certain spectrum.

It also depends on whether you mean solar heating (from sun shining in) or conductive heating (hot outside air heating the window glass and frame).
