Question

I need to replace a set of wood french entry doors. The wood is in bad shape and rotted in some places. I have planned to replace them with a set of steel french doors. My problem is that the door frame is also in horrible shape and I'm afraid I will have to replace it also. Are there any sites with instructions on how to do this? I would appreciate any help with this since this is really my first time to fix anything!
Thanks,
Lova

The steel french doors will probably ONLY come 'pre-hung', so you will be replacing the frame when you install the new ones. Search the archives of this forum. MTAC (More Than A Carpenter) has a web site that will show you all of the basics of installing 'pre-hung' doors.

A set of rather detailed instructions come with these kind of doors also. Also the manufacturer of the door will have a installation brochure. It will be pretty easy to change out. The hardest thing to deal with will be the weight of both the door you take out, and the one you put in. You can probably change it out in about 4 hours. But have a couple of friends there to help you lift. Weight will be several hundred pounds.
