Window installation...need advice.
We had a local company come and give us estimates for windows today. We are in upstate NY and the windows are manufactured in syracuse. This was for 8 double hung windows and one octagon bay window. Installation is not subcontracted and they seem to stand 100% behind their instalations being top quality. ( I really have no proof but I wouldn't know what to ask about to make sure)
They are vinyl windows, the construction looked pretty solid. The difference between signature and the lower end series was that the open spaces in the vinyl tubing is filled with insulation. Right now they are offering a free upgrade on the signature windows, double pane up to triple pane with single Low-E coating and argon fill. Most of pricing differences had to do with warranty. Here is the pricing breakdown we were given.
*All options have lifetime parts and manufacturing warranty including broken glass.
*All options include 34% off the original price for their promotional sale, a seasonal discount and a small discount for signing a contract within 48 hours.
Signature Series.
50 year in home service warranty. w/Triple Pane free upgrade. $6208
25 year in home service warranty. w/Triple Pane free upgrade. $5984
15 year in home service warranty. w/Triple Pane free upgrade. $5716
Premiere Series (No insulation in tubing)
10 year in home service warranty. Double Pane with single Low-E. $5512
5 year in home service warranty. Double Pane with single Low-E. $5305
1 year in home service warranty. Double Pane with single Low-E. $4859
Last but not least when we said we didn't think we would need a 25 or 50 year warranty and that I could not see a huge difference efficiency wise between the signature and premiere windows besides the free triple pane upgrade he offered...
15 year warranty with the signature window and triple pane glass for the same price as the top premiere option at $5512.
We are leaning toward that last option, any words of advice before we continue? This is our first home and were still figuring things out as we go. Also we don't plan on being in this house for more than 5 years.
Thanks,
Brendan

What are you replacing?
I certainly don't see you recouping your costs, if that's part of your thought process

the windows we have now have started to warp and are getting drafty. We are hoping to save money on heating for the next couple of years and get a portion back as a selling point when we sell the home.
thanks

Window manufacturer??????? That long/lifetime warranty is only as good as the company, most of which are gone in less than 5 yrs. Check them out!!!!!!!!!! I deal with a company that has been around for a long time, with a proven track record. Any company with a viable product does not haggle over warranty times or prices.
Run, don't walk from anyone that says "sign within 48 hrs". Know the contractor that does the installation.
