Installing inside mount blinds

I am in the progress of installing inside mount blinds. While removing a block of wood that had been glued inside the window frame to support the center bracket of the curtain rods we are replacing, I found that immediately under the surface there seems to be metal? This seems like it's going to be a problem as we have a fairly wide window, 71 inches, and I'm going to need to install a center support for the blinds. What exactly is this metal piece and is it probably under the surface the entire way around? What's my best option for installing the center support for the blinds since I'm supposed to drill through this? Below are pictures to help explain the problem. Thanks for your time.

Can't really get a good visual from the pictures, but it appears to be drywall corner bead. Usually any screw will go right through it, although you might need to drill a pilot hole if your screw isn't real sharp.
