I rent a house with old, horizontal sliding aluminum windows. The problem is that the behind the sliding windows is an interior storm window, then a screen. I have no trouble removing the sliding sections but the interior storm window is one whole piece that appears to have to be removed by pulling it out. There are two small 1 inch thumb-sized handles (one on the bottom left and bottom right). I have no idea how to remove this thing. There are no screw or clips otherwise. Do I pry it out of the frame from the inside of the house? I'm afraid to do the wrong thing and break the whole piece. I would say these windows are at least 30 years old. Getting very frustrated –*AC is not working and it is 90+ degrees out. Thanks for any/all help! P.S. – the landlord has no idea how to remove them either, otherwise I'd be done by now.

Been ahwile since I have been in the forum. I have a hole in my basement wall that use to be used for shuffling wood in for my wood stove. When the owner before me did not use this hole any more they sealed it shut with 2x4's and some ply wood. I am now refinishing that side of the basement and would like to put in a window for egress per code. The outer most ring of 2x4's equals 24.5 sqaure. I have found a window that will fit but I am totally unsure of how to measure accurately tto make sure I get the correct window. Anybody have any suggestions? Do I need to measure the hole from side to side and top tp bottom from the cement wall or from the outer most 2x4? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
