How to fix stripped holes for door hinges.

A few of my doors have the screws holes that hold the hinge onto the door totally stripped out. The hinge just barely hangs on. I tried filling the holes with wood putty but that didn't work to well. Is there a way to fill the holes with something and then redrill the holes for new screws?

Forcing tooth picks into the hole works well. If it's on the jamb side of the hinge - use a longer screw. I've heard you can glue a golf tee into the hole [sand smooth] and then redrill it for the screw.

Hi,
I've inserted small plastic plugs like those used for in drywall for hanging pictures etc.
Hope this helps.

Golf tees, wood dowels - depends on the size of the hole you have as to what is the best choice

I think i'll try the dowels and epoxy them in. I believe it would be the strongest.

If you have epoxy, that's ok but regular wood glue is more than sufficient
