Acrylic Sheet on Skylight

I have 2 skylights in my family room. I get too much sunlight in summer. I thought of replacing the glass with tinted glass first but I found it to be expensive. I also thought of getting a window film. Installation is expensive because it is hard to reach from inside the family room.

Access-wise it is lot easier from the roof. So, I am thinking of installing acrylic sheet (lexan or plexi?) on top of the skylight glass from outside. I can get a tinted glass. I saw it in Menards. It is called "Bronze Tint Acrylic"...

Is this a good idea? How do I secure the acrylic sheet to the glass? Can I glue it around the perimeter?

I contacted a cover company recently and sent them pictures. They said the cover won't work for my skylight. There is no lip on the side to hold the cover down. I know it is held down by bungy cords but in my case it could blow away in a windy storm. They are not cheap either - $90 a piece for 30 by 54

Take a look at a spray tint to put on the skylight glass. i believe it would work well even if it was sprayed on the outside. It would be a cheap and easy way to block some light.

Thanks, Badeyeben!
Can you tell me where I can buy this spray tint with a brand name if possible? I looked online and found a brand called VHT but it looks like it is meant for car taillight (plastic) tinting. Since my application is on glass, I am thinking this product is not the right one.
Let me know if you know of any spray tint that can be applied to window glass.

You can find what is called Rust-Oleum frosted glass at Home Depot. Sears sell the Krylon brand for about $12. You might try a real paint store if you have one nearby. A place that only sells paint and they might order you a tint.
Or if you have a place that customizes autos nearby they might help you out.
