patio Doors
I am thinking of replacing all my aluminum track wood patio doors that have been giving me leak problems and wood rot, water in the inside track that eventually hits the corner and rots the wood and drips to the bottom floor..
should I go ahead and do it in the winter month (Michigan)
I am afraid that the workman ship will be different than in the summer

Another question on that.
Seems not many installers if any use a sill pan flashing on the install
I talked to the pella folks and they only use a flexible tape flashing.
Is this enough ??

Winter installs are fine as long as the contractor is using proper sealants.
If the sill detail is proper, you can use a flexible sill pan flashing (most use nothing FYI).
If the slope isn't correct, that needs to be addressed and a supplemental rigid pan can be adapted as well.

I would not be talking to Pella reps. Over 26 yrs, I have had too many problems with their products, and POOR customer service, to recommend them. Pella advertises Cadillacs, but IMHO, delivers Yugo's.
The more flashing and protection you include during installation, the fewer problems you will have later, regardless of the product. Things leak, and over time, some things leak a lot. Proper flashing under and around the opening will guarantee many years of trouble free operation.

Just Bill
Thanks for the feedback
As you may know. I am trying to find a good and hounest contractor in the Southe east Michigan area .
I talked to 2 or three contractors and when I mention sill pan flashing they say we dont do it.
Pella at least put a flexible sheet on the bottom and on the sides.
I really dont know where to go from here.. I wish I can do it my self, but its a big job for me..
