Interior pre hung door jam issue
I have purchased some prehung interior doors for my home. What I noticed is that three rooms door jam depth is 3 1/2 inches, while the pre hund doors are 4 9/16. My home is older, the existing frame has layer upon layers of paint. Is there a way i can shave down the frame of the pre hung door? Has anyone ever attempted this? What is my best option? The other rooms are fine they have 4 9/16. Suggestions are welcome.

Yes, you'd want to rip 1 1/4" off the side of the jamb that does NOT have the hinges on it. If you have a cordless skilsaw that has a rip guide, that would be your best bet to get a nice straight cut. You'd just have to be very careful to cut very straight at the end of your cut when the rip guide runs off the end of the door. Then you'd glue and brad nail some screen moulding (usually just under 1/4" thick x 3/4" wide) onto the cut edge of the jamb and sand it down until it's perfectly flush with the rest of the jamb.
