Can I change the swing of a door?

Hi all, I have an exterior door in the kitchen that when opened you cannot get into the refrigerator. Can I flip the door so that it will swing left to right instead of right to left?

You could, but it will be a lot of work. You'll have to remove the door, fill all the hinge mortices and the latch holes on the frame. If you have glass in the door with screws on the inside, you'd have to also blank off the existing door knob holes and fill the latch mortice in the door slab. Then re-cut everything on the opposite sides. If it has a deadbolt, thats probably right where the center hinge would line up so thats a big problem.

Easier would be to buy a new door blank, then you'd just have fill the frame openings and re-cut.

Easiest of all IMO is to buy a whole new door with the swing you want and replace the whole thing.

If it is an exterior door opening, and wallspace is a premium, spend a little more and go with an outswing door unit. Flush on the outside makes for a better weather retarder also. You won't be able to use a storm door, but you will gain your kitchen back.
