stripped to much of oak door

stripped to much of oak door

i was stripping off my oak door and i stripped to much off and chips came off. I put clear satin and you can still see the big gashes . Need to make it better .

Welcome to the forums! How did you strip it? If you sanded it most likely you removed a good portion of the veneer. Is it possible for you to post pictures of what you did so we can see what you see? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

Sure sounds like you removed pieces of the veneer It might be possible to use some wood filler on those spots coupled with some artistic painting/staining to get the repair acceptable. Pics would be nice.

If it's at the bottom of the door - would a kick plate hide the damage?

stripping

i was stripping with chisel and it was dry and a couple chips came off. its on the middle of right side of the door.

Ok, I have to ask - what were you stripping that required a chisel?

Pictures would help us propose suggestions, as has been stated.

Filler and sanding may help but it might be time to paint that oak door

It's hard for us to know what you have going on without seeing it? Why did you need a degreaser? wouldn't a wide putty knife have been better than a chisel?
