Remove Door Hinge Pin Help
I am trying to remove an interior door hinge pin to install a Stanley Hinge Pin Doorstop.
I have attached pictures of the hinge. Can someone tell me how to remove the pin?
Also, would you recommend putting the doorstop on the bottom hinge or top hinge?
Thanks!

First remove the paint from the bottom of the hinge pin area. There will be a small hole in the bottom of the pin cover. Put in a small punch and rotate it until the cover comes out. Then use the punch to push upward on the pin until it is removed. I wouldn't recommend using a hinge stop, as it can tend to dent your door and the wall/trim it contacts. Is there no other type stop you can use? Floor, basebard? door knob?

Or --- remove the paint on the top to expose the pin *head* and use a putty knife or the blade of a flat screwdriver with a hammer and tap up. It might take some doing to get the pin out with that much paint buildup so be patient.

Yeah... I guess it depends how bad you like that paint. I would probably just put a nail set (the large red rubber gripped stanley one) on the bottom of the hinge (in the center) and give it a whack (up) with the hammer. With all that paint it might take more than one hit. From the looks of it, you might need to be "lead certified" to remove that hinge pin. LOL
I second Larry's comments on the use of hinge stops. They will also eventually punch holes in hollow core doors when someone forces them too far.

I normally use the stiff putty knife method [always have one handy
] and often it's difficult to get a punch under the bottom hinge. I also don't like the hinge stops! I've done countless repaints where they had punched holes in hollow core doors and dents in the casing or solid wood doors

what would you use to stop the door if not a hinge stop? i have brand new doors and the door swinging open will hit the plinth blocks below if i don't stop it somehow, and pop the door off the hinges.

There are a couple of different type of door bumpers that affix either to the floor or the baseboard. They can be installed so they hit the solid wood part of the door.
