prehun door -- can you nail jamb directly onto stud

hey guys

I'm installing some interior doors in my basement . typically I'll shim the hinge side to make sure that side is perfectly plum. then I work my way around the door.
now , there's a couple of doors that are pretty tight in the frame. is it ok to nail/screw the jam (hinge side) directly onto the stud? the rough opening in question is perfectly plum so if I did nail directly that jam would be ok...but will I have issues down the line because of wood movement or other?

Yes, nailing directly to the stud is fine. It is always best to ensure the hinge side lumber is perfectly plumb and place your door frame against is firmly, then shim the top and latch side.

I like to use 2 1/2" trim screws rather than nails, because invariably there will be some amount of adjustment as you install it, and it is easier to back out a screw than it is to cut a nail.
