I want to paint my front door red on the outside, but white on the inside of the door. My question is, do I paint the top and sides of the door the same color as the exterior (red) or the interior (white)?

I would say white (interior). When the door is closed, you would not want to see any red around the edges of the door.

If the top edge of the door can be seen it gets painted with the inside color. On a door that swings in, the toe [latch edge] gets painted with the interior color and the heel [hinge side] gets painted with the exterior color.
