Anderson Half french door

The handle on my french door doesn't stay in the latched position unless it is locked. Do I need to replace the whole thing or what.

Do you mean the handle falls down or that it can be opened from the outside? If it just falls down, yes, you probably need a new latch mechanism. Not the whole thing, just the part that fits in the edge of the door.

10 yr warranty on hardware from Andersen...have you called them yet?

20 to 30 year old door or at least 17 years since we have been in the house. It locks just fine but to make sure its closed you have to lock it. When you unlock it the handle falls just a little and a strong wind will blow the door open, or the dog jumping on the handle for the outside.

It could be just a spring or it could be worn internal parts. Andersen is very very good about making newer parts compatible with older units. They also don't change their designs willy nilly like some makers.

A few years back I got screens for a customer's 25 y/o sliders, no problem.

I'd check out their webpage for the information they will need, then call customer service.
