replacing fastener that holds screen and storm windows in old wooden doors
Hello,
I have a home that was built in the 50's and has 3 wooden doors that have interchangeable storm windows and screen windows. Each door has slots or slits cut into the frames as do the windows; 2 on each side. To remove the windows you have to turn a screw in each of the 4 slots or slits to vertical to remove and horizontal to lock in and when you do this a flat metal piece comes out of the door to go into the corresponding slot/slit in the window.
My question is how do I remove an existing one that has broken to replace it when the screw just keeps turning or are they not replaceable?

I understand your question completely but I never had to replace one of them. The newer style exterior retainer, for storm doors should work, although you would have to use a wood screw instead of a machined screw.
