Flashing Tape duration around Windows?

I am installing a few windows. I am using zip boards (with zip tape) for sheathing and was told this can withstand being uncovered for 8 plus months before the final siding is installed, so we can finish and select something over the winter months.
However I was recently just told that some of the flashing taping/adhesives used on and around the windows does not hold up the same over a period of time without being trimmed out.
It has a tendency to shrink?? never heard of this?
Do I really need to be concerned about this?

Zip system tape needs to be covered within 180 days. (6 mo) Its adhesion depends to a large extent on how clean the boards were, and whether or not it got j-rolled (adhered well) before dust and rain got behind it. I'm sure zip system isn't crazy about making any claims on whether or not their tape will stick to any and every window ... and I don't blame them.

IMO it probably has a tendency to melt in the hot temps you get when the siding is painted a dark color.
