Sealant around Pella casement replacements

Hello,

In preparation for staining 11 Pella full replacement casements that were installed awhile back, I noticed that there isn't any sealant on the cedar trim pieces. I reached out to the contractor asking about this and he is going to stop out and look, but figured I'd reach out to the community for advice, too..

I read through the install documentation on Pella's site, and I couldn't find any mention of sealing exterior seams like I have pictured below. Is there any need for concern here?

If done according to mfg instructions, the perimeter of the window should have a 3/8" gap between the window and any exterior trim. The gap is first filled with foam backer rod, followed by caulk.

See step #7 illustrations. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...738TD_cxYjun3A

Dont be too upset, almost no one does this correctly. Probably because no one reads or follows directions.
