Question Velux skylight - seating screen to engage safety switch

Have a Velux VSE/QVE venting skylight with screen. In order for the skylight to function, the screen has to sit on top of and engage the safety switch. 10 years old. When I engage the safety switch manually, the skylight works fine. But the screen and/or frame must have gotten slightly out of alignment and I cannot get the screen to sit properly atop the safety switch, therefore can't get skylight to open/close properly.

Looking for suggestions on 2 things:
1. things to try to get the screen seated properly
2. is it possible to disconnect the safety switch so I can bypass the functionality?

Thanks.

You might want to get the screen rescreened, and when you do, use aluminum screen and make sure they know to spread the frame so that it is not concave in the spot your switch is located.

A quick fix might be to add a shim.

Thanks - I tried a shim and my initial effort didn't work, but I'll have another go at that approach.
