Urgent Storage Cupboard Door Problem

I have a large storage cupboard room outside my apartment, which I have stupidly filled with too many suitcases and boxes. This morning, as I put the Vacuum cleaner back, I dislodged a suitcase which fell against the door.

The door opens into the cupboard and is now jammed shut. I've tried everything to open it but it just won't budge.

What are my options here?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Perhaps a picture of the door and hinge area will help us determine if we can help.

Welcome to the forums! I gather from your moniker you are from the UK and not North America. Here, we would advise contacting the landlord of the apartment and seek their advice and help. If you tear up something you will be held liable for it.

If it were a private residence I would recommend removing the trim molding on the outside (3 pieces). With a reciprocating saw, I would plunge cut just deep enough on the inside to cut the nails and molding on the inside to where the door and frame could be extricated to the outside. Yeah the inside molding would be toast, but you could replace it. While it is out, I would consider reversing the door to an outswing to preclude this from happening again.

NOW, suggest this to your landlord and see what they say.

Norm, the hinges are on the inside....YUK.

Yea, Didn't catch that. And why would a cupboard door open to the inside?

I suspect it's more of a closet than what we would call a cupboard. I've painted lots of apartments/condos that had a storage closet on the patio/balcony.

Yes, I guess it's more of a closet. Thanks for the advice so far. I guess it will be a case of contacting the landlord - I just hope it won't be too expensive.
