sliding window stuck - hardware question
Hey,
This is probably a dumb question. I have a sliding window that seems to be locked somehow in an open position. Attaching photos of a latch/lock looking thing on a similar window that I think is the culprit. The 2 close up photos are sideways, the problem is at the bottom of the window not the side. No idea how to fix it so the window will close. Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forums! Can you also attach a picture of the offending window. Those pop out latches stop the window's movement for security reasons. You can partially open it, but not far enough for someone to crawl through it. Popping it back in allows full movement of the glass. In the meantime try lifting straight up on the movable sash and remove it from the tracks at the bottom. You should be able to see, at that point, what was causing the locking.

You should be able to grasp the window on the sides and lift it up as high as it will go, then pull the bottom of the sliding sash out of the frame, then the top will follow. Fix your button, then installation is the reverse.

You will probably have to remove the lock and replace it with a new one. The vent locks snaps in and is held in with a top and bottom tab. To remove the broken vent lock, slide a flat chisel under the lip and force the lock out. Note: You will break the tabs and will not be able to reuse the old vent lock.
