Door extender

Wanting to install a storm door, but I have a oversized doorway height. All the doors I am looking at are around 80" to 81" tall and my doorway is 86". I've seen some extension kits, but cannot find one over 2".

Can anyone recommend any hardware that can be installed on a storm door to close the gap?

I know I could have a custom door made, but the cost is out of the range I'm willing to spend. Hoping I can get some sort of extension and/or sweep.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to the forums!

Have you priced having a custom door made? I've had it done twice and was surprised at how reasonable the price was.

The only "extension" is to block off the trim on the top of the door with a 5" block of wood, which would look totally dorky. The sill expanders on a storm door only come in one standard size, which is why they have a limited adjustment of 80-81".

Sounds to me like you need to special order an 84" door and do what you have to do with the top piece of trim to make it work.

Had a customer come in the store the other day asking the same question. After talking to him we (he) decided it was better in the long run to rebuild the header to fit a standard door. Then all future updated will be standard.

Hi, A sheet metal shop probably could build one for you.
