Gap bottom of exterior wood door

The upstairs balcony door in my daughter's home is too short at the bottom. The gap is not even due to settling of the house (120 yrs old). The gap is now apparent since the carpet has been removed and the wood floors refinished. The door is original to the home and she would like to keep it. Is there a way to install an extra thick threshold (we used to call them saddle boards) to fill in the gap?

I don't know a lot about the different thresholds but one option would be to remove the current threshold, set the appropriate sized lumber under and reinstall.
