Replacing sash cords on "mid-century" windows
Last weekend I helped my daughter & family move into their new home. The house was built in 1968, has some nice details, and is mostly in very good shape. One thing I noticed is that most of the thin nylon sash cords on the large double-hungs are snapped. I didn't see pockets to access these like in really old windows--is there a weight or a spring hidden somewhere? There are casement windows in the home that are Andersen but I couldn't determine if the double-hungs are also Andersen.

Your sash cords come down from a plastic cartridge that is located in the head of the window. Hard telling what brand they are... we cant determine that for you. Look for a brand mark on the cartridge or in the bottom corners of the glass... it will be very faint if its an Andersen (AW).
