Velux VSE skylights not responding

Have 3 Velux electric skyights with electric venetian blinds, about 8-9 years old

Two of the three units have stopped responding to the remote. Red lights light up when pressing "up", I hear microswitch clicking, but window does not move. Red light stays on till I hit stop. Blinds also do not move or respond.

A) Have tried pressing reset switch on window controller til it turns yellow, then press "stop" button on remote. Then up/down buttons, window does not move, but red light comes on.

B) Have tried manually opening window first, then A above. Window does not move at all.

C) Tried opening window manualy, then press and HOLD reset button for over 1 minute and light blinks green. Tried remote,no response from window. Just red light. Window never moves.

D) Tried C above but tried pressing stop button on remote then down button. No response. Just red light.

E)Tried turning off power to skylights & letting sit for few minutes. Remote works fine with the one skylight but not other two. Tried all steps above after power being off, to no avail.

F)Opened cover to controller on window. Nothing looks/smells burnt. Label says operator 17C2. 938856 below that.

1 online DIY site says make sure blind/covers are up when doing manual reset but I have no idea how to raise venitian blind manual without damaging it.

I called velux twice -- first time the guy was great and sat and seemed to care.....he outlined the correct process as follows:

Set remote to M1 and 3 (for that window)
Press and hold reset button on unit til flashes yellow & release
Press STOP button on remote, light flashes

Press and hold safety switch, press DOWN and then UP.

Well, tried that and still no results.

So I called back...this time the guy I talked to (different from before) seemed to be more interested in my scheduling one of their repair people ($125 for the visit, plus parts) than helping me. I did manage to get out of him that a circuit board costs $100 plus shipping.

Iran across this thread here Velux VSE Electric Skylight Repair where the picture shows the same controller I have ......but I dont recall seeing the transformer in there.

Wondering if it would be the board, the controller or the transformer in my case?

I am pretty handy and hate to pay someone $125 to do what I can do for free.....but then velux told me the service guy carries spare parts in the truck, including the controller board....

The odd thing is that TWO out of THREE units stopped working at the same time.....the 3rd unit still works and responds great.....

Not sure you every solved the problem of the windows not opening. I had a similar issue and in my case the reason was that the safety switch that prevents the window from operating when the screen is removed was not depressed causing the relay to click but not to operate.
Wanted to post this response here as it took me a while to realize.

Hey there.

We had tried that as well.

After speaking with the service line and doing all sorts of tests , we decided that an electrical storm must have taken out the two boards.

I ended up replacing the two units completely -- chains and all -- it was cleaner that way.

They have been working fine now since.
