Making closet doors fit my closet opening

I'm sure this is a basic question, but I have a closet opening that is 54 inches wide and I need to put closet doors on it. However, I haven't seen any closet doors out there that are 27 inches. Do I really have to just go with 24 inch doors and pack out 3 inches on each side? That seems excessive....what am I missing?

If this is what I have to do, what should I use to pack it out?

They make 28" doors. They often measure 27 3/4". So you might need to rip 3/8-1/2" off each side to make them 27ish if you want to put them on hinges. If they are bypass doors 28 is probably close enough.
