Exterior Door mouldings...can these be replaced?
Folks:
My garage access door (photos) is a metal door that needed painting. In these photos I've sanded it smooth and will prime before applying a strong exterior door paint. The issue is the mouldings that are nailed to the door probably could use replacing. This is the 2nd time painting this door and the mouldings have been incorrectly sanded in the past so their edge is flat--wose their is some thick latex paint in areas that is really difficult to remove. I suppose I could use paint stripper but I'm not a fan of that mess....
I know I could buy replacement mouldings and cut the 45 degree angels. Done it many times before for interior trim; however, take a look at that top rounded moulding. I think it's made of vinyl as it know its not wood. I've sanded through the paint and it's white and somewhat soft.
Does anyone know if I could buy material like this--even rounded one like that? Or was it likely a straight piece and the builders rounded in on their own?

Those moldings are typically installed at the factory. While yours appears to be wood, all the similar doors sold in recent yrs use a plastic type molding. I've never heard of anyone replacing them. You might contact the door manufacture but I suspect your best bet would be to clean them up the best you can, prime and paint.

Yes you can buy the molding... if you can find it. The problem would be finding the EXACT profile if you intend to leave the curved one.
If I was going to replace it, I would start by sourcing the curved moulding. (Google flextrim) Once you have that profile, find its corresponding wood profile. I have a shop in Omaha I go to for stuff like that. This would be their closest match.
Honestly though, it looks like you just need to strip and repaint yours.

I ordered mounding and they look great
See attached. I used all new flexible moldings rather than try to match new wood with a flexible crown.
