Bi-fold closet door handle

What’s the best way to get this handle to stay on? I’ve never experienced this in any previous homes. Cheap doors? They feel like cardboard. I think the handle design has something to do with it. People are inclined to twist it vs. Pulling it.

the cheap little plastic wall hangars were in there before. There is nothing supporting the handle on the back side of the door.

Masonite doors only have a thin frame around the perimeter and typ they install a knob that at least goes through both sides to give a little more support.

Those plastic anchors are useless even in the best of conditions.

You would be better off changing to a knob as mentioned above or open the hole up with 3/8" drill and glue in a piece of wood dowel all the way to the inside of the back surface (lots of glue).

That will hold better than just trying to attach to the one surface.

Drill through the door and use a couple bolts.
Use a couple decent sized washers on the inside of the door.
