Bottom Hinge Pin

Trying to remove door. Pins were super-stuck; been through about 14 cans of WD-40, but I got the top two pins out.

The bottom pin - not so much. If I put a nail in the bottom, there's no room to swing a hammer. I cannot get any prying device in at the top.

Any hacks? After lunch, I'm just going to take the whole hinge off the wall if nothing comes to me.

Thanks

I use a nail set and turn the hammer sideways, in order to hit it with the flat side of the hammer. Taking the hinge off works too.

If you can knock the pin up enough to grab the edge of the pin's head with a stiff putty knife you can knock the pin out that way.

Yeah, the point is it ain't moving. Tried every stiff prying device I could find to get in there before posting. (Whoever said Patience is a virtue is full of bunk).

The challenge I'm having with the nail set and side of hammer - I just can't get enough momentum/power/back swing.

I always worry with unscrewing and rescrewing things into walls.... It's holding now, why introduce chaos? But it's looking like that's the answer.

(And you know what's going to happen. I'll lay the door down on the horses, I'll lightly tap the bottom of the pin, and it will shoot out of the hinge with .45 force, only to get lost in the back of the garage....)

Used an allen wrench, short end in the hinge and tapped tapped tapped tapped tapped tapped until it gave enough to get the putty knife in....

Easily spent more time getting the pins out than putting two coats on door!

Nice trick. The allen wrench is a couple inches shorter than the nail set. Sounds like you just werent hitting it hard enough.

Yeah, and it gave me a wider strike area - sacrificed some power, obviously, but more forgiving, precision-aiming-wise.
