Question 100 YO Doorknob Repair/Replacement

Antique doorknob ( keyhole bolt, visible screws) set-- original to house, but knobs were replaced at some point. Has been very hard to turn for several years. Latch moves only a little. Removed screws on knob stem but cannot get knobs to come apart. How do I get them off?

Do the knobs slide onto a square shaft? If so older ones were only held on with the screw so if you've removed the screw then it might be rust holding it in place. If the knobs were replaced the square shaft may be threaded and the knobs will unscrew off after the set screw is removed.
