Shutter Size
I am building some barn style British brace shutters and wondering what the appropriate height would be. Here is what I currently have and I am keeping the width the same (14"). Should the shutters be the exact height of the glass only? Should they overlap some like these do? Thanks in advance.

The ones you have are about 3" too tall. To look the traditional size, you would measure from the top of the sloped sill to the bottom edge of the top trim... As if they were hinged to close over the window.

But, the shutter is just a cosmetic addition!
The total width of the shutter is less than the window width so the length is not going to be too critical.
IMO, the width is more important. When I built my shutters I built them @ 80% of total width and the look came out nice!
