What do I nail my window sill to?

I am remodeling my bathroom and one of the things I did was to replace the window with a new construction window. It's a standard double hung window wit into a standard wall. I'm making all new casing and sill for it but I can't figure out what to nail the sill to. I've looked up so many videos but they all have a scenario where there's sort of a shelf, or horizontal surface which the sill sits on top of. That is not my situation as the window and jam are more ore less flush with the sheetrock. In other words, if I hold up the new sill to the window and let go of it, it would just drop on the floor. I can't figure out how best to attach the sill - and I'm a pretty smart guy so it's frustrating lol.
Should I just glue the apron to the bottom of the sill, then nail the apron and maybe a couple toenails through the sill downwards into the window jam? I can take a pic if need be.

Thanks!

I assume you are referring to the stool. Yes, you can fasten the stool and apron together, then fasten the apron to the wall, perhaps adding some wood glue to the stool, and clamp it tightly to the window Alternatively, on many windows you can predrill holes through the front of the stool and use long grk finish screws to attach it to the window. (Assuming the screws won't poke through into the sill area.)

Perfect. I have never heard the term "stool" . I always thought it was a sill. I appreciate the info - thanks!

The sill is the sloped part under the window. So many people incorrectly call the stool a window sill that its caught on.

I'm truly grateful to have learned this. I really like when I find out something I've been saying or thinking has been wrong since the get go. Perfect example in electrical work, every calls a receptacle and outlet. All receptacles are outlets but not all outlets are receptacles. I learned that here as well. Lot of smart folks here.
